In the past four(?) weeks I've been taking apart a computer. It has been really, really fun learning all the parts. I have made a list of all the parts and what each piece does below. . .

~PCI, AGP, CPU and RAM~ The PCI takes care of your sound and networks cards while your AGP is the graphics card. The graphics card in the computer I took out was a RADION graphics card. The CPU is pretty much the brains of the computer. It processes just about everything. The RAM makes your computer faster. 1 big application takes up more and more RAM making the computer slower.

~Motherboard~ The motherboard link everything together. It's the main piece of the computer. If you have a slow motherboard, you have a slow computer.

~DC Output Power~ The DC output power converts energy from the wall with 120 volts ac, to the Direct current which could be 5, 12, or 3.3 volts ac.

~Hard drive~ The hard drive is a very important part in the computer. What it does is it stores all your permanent memory. This includes photos, games, movies and more!

~Heat sink~ While all the air goes through the fan, the heat sink dissipates the heat so the computer doesn't heat up. Heat sinks are place on the motherboard and the AGP (graphics card).

It has been very fun learning all the pieces and I hope I have this experience of genius hour again.

Today I took apart the DC Input. It had a leaking battery in it so I had to work my way around it. This was the second, last session so I'm pretty excited to see what my presentation  will look like. I think it's been fun to learn whatever you want in the past week and I hope I can do this kind of thing again.

    1. What did you do today? *
I took apart more of the computer.

    2. What were your successes? What went well today? *
I have more pieces now and I labeled them so I know all the names.

    3. What were your challenges? problems? *
    There is a leaking compasitor.

    4. What are your next steps? What will you do next week? *
I will be bringing gloves so I can't be in danger of the compasitor.

    5. What do you need from The Boss? Do you need other help? support? *
I don't believe I need any help at the moment.

Today was our second genius hour! Boy, that was a blast.

On my computer I learned that the battery looking things are actually compensators.

There are many different sizes.
I will not be taking those out though.

In genius hour I took out a few screws and relized thee was a danger sign. I divided not to touch it untill next time.

My next steps for genius hour are to bring gloves next time and bring more/bigger ziplock bags.

Friday was my first genius hour I had where I had actually taken some parts out.
Here are some pictures below of me and my computer.
I learned that there's way more parts in a computer than I thought there would be.
My next steps are to right a 'blue print' to know where everything goes. Even though I remember, I believe a blue print would be easier.

I really loved genius hour. I like how you can finally do something you want to do, that makes you happy.

What is a genius?
A genius is a person who is creative, original, or just has a very high IQ.
You don't have to be an Albert Einstein to be a genius. You can even be like Smosh, Captain Sparklez or maybe a person who created a Minecraft mod like the Aether mod or Too Many Items. These are some very thoughtful people who have the originality to do amazing things.

Genius hour is where we get one hour each week to learn or do what ever we want!

I believe this is a great opportunity for me to finally learn how computers work. For my genius hour I have decided to take a computer a part. This is an old compter and many things have changed in the computers today. This means I will learn only some of the parts they have in the computer today. Plus, this computer has some parts taken out of it. It's only a little bit though, so it shouldn't matter.

I hope I learn a lot of things from genius hour and I think this will be very fun.

What will I be doing?
I will be taking a computer apart to learn the parts and techie components inside.

When will I be doing this?
I will doing this for one hour each week until school has ended. This can all be done in my extra time during recess, lunch, or maybe even a home.

Where will this happen?
I will be taking the computer apart at school and sometimes at home.

Why am I doing this?
I wanted to build a computer first but that is definitely easier said than done. So then I decided that I should take a computer apart first, then I would know what’s what and what goes where. This would then give me some knowledge on what pieces go in which place so then if I were going to build a computer than I would how how to make it work.

How will I do this?
I will look on google to try and find a way on how to take apart the computer, or I will make an educated guess on which pieces should come out first.
